Reagan Muhairwe, popularly known as Ray G, demonstrated his prowess as a Western Uganda-based singer with a triumphant concert last Friday evening at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala. This event marked his second concert in Kampala, following his first performance at the Imperial Royale Hotel two years ago.
This time, the stakes were higher. Ray G was determined to prove that an artist from Western Uganda could draw a substantial crowd at such a prestigious venue. And prove it he did. Collaborating with Global Coaches to transport fans from Mbarara to the venue, Ray G ensured a full house by the time he took the stage at 9 PM.
The concert, expertly organized by Fenon Events, featured top-notch sound, an impressive stage, and sophisticated lighting, delivering excellent value to the attendees. The event also saw support from various musicians from both central and western Uganda, including Green Daddy, Levixone, Truth 256, Pallaso, Ziza Bafana, and the new group Warafiki from Fenon Entertainment.
Ray G performed a range of his hits in three sessions, including “Make a Way,” “Omusheshe” with Spice Diana, “Yoya” with Levixone, “Mirembe,” “Yebare,” “Tayari,” and “Weena.” His fans, caught up in the excitement, sang along to every song.
Midway through the concert, Ray G took a moment to thank his fans and fellow musicians for their unwavering support and belief in him. He later expressed his gratitude on social media, stating, “I thank the Almighty God. He blessed us with life, good weather, and set our music free. My heart is full. I am forever grateful. 10th May 2024, was a fundamental day in my music career and my life. God showed that when you believe and work hard, dreams become reality. I thank all my friends (fans) ‘abantu bangye’ for the love and support like you always do. I can never take it for granted because it pushes me to be the best version of myself.”
He also acknowledged his sponsors, particularly Next Media, for their overwhelming support in making the event a success. Ray G’s performance at Lugogo Cricket Oval not only affirmed his talent but also underscored the potential of artists from Western Uganda to make a significant impact on the national music scene.
