Abba Marcus Mayanja, son of Ugandan musician Joseph Mayanja, alias Jose Chameleone, has publicly criticized his grandparents for neglecting his father’s well-being.
His remarks came shortly after Chameleone was hospitalized in Kampala due to acute pancreatitis, raising concerns about the singer’s health.
Chameleone’s Health Worries Fans
Last week, Chameleone’s condition reportedly worsened, leading to his admission to a hospital in Kampala.
According to Abba, his father is suffering from acute pancreatitis, a serious condition that affects the pancreas, a vital gland responsible for aiding digestion and regulating blood sugar levels.
Acute pancreatitis is often linked to prolonged heavy alcohol consumption, and some sources suggest Chameleone may also be battling liver disease.
The National Unity Platform and former musical alie, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, attempted to visit Chameleone in the hospital.
However, he was unable to see him as the singer was under sedation at the time.
Abba’s Frustration with Family and Friends
In a candid TikTok video, Abba expressed frustration with his father’s parents and close friends, accusing them of neglecting Chameleone’s health.
He criticized his grandparents for being “careless” about their son’s well-being despite his contributions to the family’s name and legacy.
“Never in my life have I seen such unconcerned parents who are so careless about their children’s well-being,” Abba said.
“No one in the country would know who the Mayanjas are if it wasn’t because of my father.”
Abba also blamed his father’s close friends for enabling his unhealthy lifestyle instead of supporting his recovery.
“The people around my father do not care about his well-being. They just care about the monetary value,” he added.
Abba further accused his grandparents of contributing to the untimely deaths of his uncles, Emmanuel Mayanja (AK47) and Humphrey Mayanja.
AK47 passed away in 2012 after collapsing at a bar in Kampala, while Humphrey succumbed to cancer in March 2024.
“So far, I have already lost two uncles, and that’s because of complete and utter irresponsibility,” Abba remarked.
The Mayanja family has faced criticism for their history of heavy drinking and public altercations.
Chameleone’s ex-wife, Daniella Atim, who shares four children with the singer, has also spoken out against the Mayanja family’s lifestyle.
Daniella has previously blamed her former mother-in-law for enabling her sons’ troubling behavior, including incidents of domestic violence and substance abuse.
In 2022, Daniella condemned the Mayanja matriarch for shielding her sons from accountability and perpetuating a culture of blame-shifting.
Following an incident where Douglas Mayanja (Weasel) was filmed assaulting his wife while intoxicated, Daniella urged her mother-in-law to take responsibility.
“Dear Mama, the time is now. Take back your position as a parent and start doing the work. We have the most impact on our children, a duty entrusted to us by God,” Daniella stated.
Public Concern for Chameleone’s Recovery
Chameleone continues to recover, fans and family members hope for focus on his health and well-being.
Abba’s outcry serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and support within families, particularly when faced with health crises.
The situation surrounding Jose Chameleone’s health highlights deeper issues within the Mayanja family, from unresolved grievances to long-standing lifestyle challenges.
Abba’s bold statements have ignited public discourse about familial responsibility, the influence of close friends, and the urgent need for change.
Legendary musician battles his health challenges, his supporters and loved ones can only hope for a united front to ensure his recovery.
