Updates:President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued a firm directive to Regional Police Commanders, instructing them to deny bail to individuals implicated in the mismanagement of Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga funds.
Speaking during a meeting with leaders in the Teso Region held in Kumi District, the President emphasized his commitment to protecting public resources.
Zero Tolerance for Embezzlement
Museveni underscored that the misuse of public funds is unacceptable and will not be tolerated under his leadership.
He highlighted the importance of PDM and Emyooga initiatives in uplifting communities out of poverty, stressing that any form of corruption undermines the development agenda.
Tightening Law Enforcement
In a bid to curb financial mismanagement, Museveni instructed Regional Police Commanders to refuse bail or bond to suspects implicated in these cases.
He warned that Commanders who fail to comply with his directive risk losing their bond-granting privileges.
“This is public money meant to empower citizens. Anyone who tampers with it must face the full force of the law,” he stated firmly.
Meeting with Teso Leaders
The President’s remarks came during a meeting with Teso Region leaders, where he engaged them on various issues affecting their communities.
He encouraged them to closely monitor the implementation of government programs to ensure accountability at all levels.
Accountability
Museveni called on local leaders and citizens to work together in safeguarding public funds. He urged community members to report any suspected cases of misappropriation, assuring them of government support in fighting corruption.
The directive by President Museveni demonstrates his resolve to strengthen accountability in Uganda.
By cracking down on embezzlement, the government aims to ensure that initiatives like PDM and Emyooga achieve their intended purpose of transforming lives and fostering economic growth.
