UBOS Reports-Uganda Achieves 99% Census Coverage.
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) announced that by the end of the census enumeration on Sunday, May 26, an impressive 99 percent of households had been counted. UBOS Executive Director Chris Mukiza shared this achievement during a press conference at the Statistics House, attributing the remaining one percent to residents in gated communities that were inaccessible.
“The remaining one percent is due to residents in gated areas that we couldn’t access, single household members working in places like factories and mines, and those who refused to be enumerated,” Mukiza explained.
Mukiza noted a significant increase in the number of households with smaller household sizes compared to the 2014 Census. He reaffirmed UBOS’s commitment to the census roadmap, which now moves into the data processing, editing, and analysis phases.
Preliminary results are scheduled for release on June 24, 2024, with provisional results following on September 24, 2024. The final report will be published on December 24, 2024.
Mukiza expressed gratitude to all government leaders, enumerators, and their supervisors for their dedication and hard work, which were crucial to the successful completion of the census.
“To the enumerators and their supervisors, we shall forever be grateful for your commitment and determination towards completing the assigned enumeration areas within the allocated time,” Mukiza said.
UBOS remains committed to delivering accurate and comprehensive census data, which will play a crucial role in planning and policy-making for Uganda’s future.
