Bebe Cool Urges Ugandan Musicians to Stop Seeking Financial Assistance from General Saleh

Breaking: Popular Ugandan singer Moses Ssali, commonly known as Bebe Cool, has called on fellow musicians to stop seeking personal financial assistance from General Caleb Akandwanaho, also known as Salim Saleh.

The artist emphasized the need for musicians to prioritize industry structures and opportunities over individual sponsorship requests.

General Saleh’s Directive to Eddy Kenzo

Bebe Cool’s appeal follows a directive from General Saleh to Eddy Kenzo, the president of the Uganda National Musicians Association (UNMF).

Saleh tasked Kenzo with managing the growing number of artists traveling to Gulu for Christmas performances, which the general stated were interfering with his work in northern Uganda.

In a handwritten letter dated November 17, General Saleh expressed frustration over musicians flocking to Gulu.

He urged Kenzo to ensure that the issue was addressed, highlighting the need to restore order during the festive season.

Misuse of General Saleh’s Generosity

Speaking to reporters, Bebe Cool backed Saleh’s directive, stating that the general’s original intention was to foster discussions that would benefit the music industry and promote socio-economic development.

“Saleh opened the door for industry development, but unfortunately, many have taken his generosity for granted,” Bebe Cool said.

He urged musicians to focus on utilizing the structures created to support the industry rather than seeking personal financial aid.

Encouraging Self-Reliance in the Music Industry

Bebe Cool advised artists to explore and leverage existing support mechanisms, such as those provided by the Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC), to improve their craft and overall livelihoods.

He also criticized the lack of financial discipline among some musicians, pointing out their over-reliance on handouts.

“Musicians must stop visiting Saleh for money and instead focus on growth through available industry platforms,” he said.

Need for Collective Progress

Bebe Cool’s remarks underline a broader need for the music fraternity to balance individual needs with collective progress.

He stressed that self-reliance and proper utilization of available opportunities would not only benefit artists but also contribute to the sustainable growth of Uganda’s music industry.

With Saleh taking a stand against what he described as a situation spiraling out of control, Bebe Cool’s call to action encourages musicians to refocus on industry development and long-term progress rather than short-term gains.
