
Breaking news Uganda-Rt. Rev. Samuel Balagadde Ssekadde, former Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, passed has died at Kisubi hospital. He was admitted to the hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed shortly after his arrival.
His death marks the end of a remarkable era of leadership within the Anglican Church of Uganda.
Ssekadde, who served as Bishop of Namirembe from 1994 until his retirement in 2009, is remembered as a devout and courageous leader.
His tenure was characterized by his steadfast commitment to his faith and the community he served.
Bishop Moses Banja, the current Bishop of Namirembe, spoke of the diocese’s deep sorrow at his passing and revealed that a special committee has been formed to work with the clergy and the community to organize the funeral arrangements.
Banja expressed the church’s grief, stating, “We are deeply saddened, as is the Church of Uganda, Buganda, and the entire nation, for the loss of such an irreplaceable pastor and parent. He was a brave man who stood firmly by his word, and his dedication to his ministry and the people will not be forgotten.”
He’s Preaching’s

Rt. Rev. Samuel Balagadde Ssekadde’s ministry was marked by his passion for preaching a gospel of salvation and education.
He laid a strong foundation for the youth and played a key role in fostering spiritual growth throughout Buganda and beyond.
His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched during his years of service.
Many people have shared their tributes; Rt. Rev. Dr. James Ssebaggala, the retired Bishop of Mukono, described Ssekadde as a man of integrity who stood firmly for the truth.
“He was a man who never shied away from proclaiming the word of God.
I had great respect for him and often sought his counsel, as he was my senior in ministry,” Ssebaggala remarked.
Prominent leaders in Buganda also joined in paying tribute;
Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, Minister of Information in Buganda Kingdom, has said that the Church have lost a great father and leader who have been dedicated to the welfare of both the kingdom and the nation.
He described Ssekadde as an unforgettable figure who consistently followed the affairs of Buganda and Uganda with a spirit of devotion and care.
The deceased succeeded Rt. Rev. Michael Kitemaggwa Kawuma as the fourth Bishop of Namirembe in 1994.
He led the diocese with wisdom and humility until his retirement in 2009, after which he was succeeded by Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira.
As the Church and the people of Uganda mourn his passing, they also celebrate a life well-lived in service to God and humanity.
Though he has died, he has left behind a legacy of faith, dedication, and an enduring impact on the spiritual landscape of Uganda.
