Sad News Uganda: The National Unity Platform (NUP) has held prayers in memory of over 150 citizens who lost their lives on November 18 and 19, 2020.
These individuals, including schoolchildren, were shot dead by security forces during peaceful protests following the violent arrest of NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) at a campaign rally in Luuka District.
Remembering the Victims
Four years ago, Ugandans witnessed one of the darkest chapters in the nation’s history.
Security forces opened fire on peaceful protestors who had gathered to demand the release of their presidential candidate.
Many of the victims were innocent bystanders, and their deaths left families devastated.
Relatives of the deceased have tirelessly sought justice over the past four years.
Despite promises made by President Museveni to compensate the families, no action has been taken.
Justice Denied
In December 2020, a team of lawyers, including Mr. Nicholas Opiyo, was abducted and later prosecuted for investigating the killings.
The government has since taken punitive measures against any attempts to uncover the truth or hold perpetrators accountable.
This denial of justice and lack of compensation for grieving families highlight the oppressive nature of the current regime.
A Commitment to Justice and Accountability
As NUP commemorates these fallen citizens, the party reaffirms its commitment to justice and accountability.
These tragic deaths are a reminder of the urgent need to fight against impunity and oppression in Uganda.
Bobi Wine, along with the NUP leadership, has pledged to stand in solidarity with the families of the victims and continue the struggle for a free, fair, and just Uganda.
The party remains resolute in ensuring that such atrocities never happen again without consequences.
A Call to Action
The NUP calls on all Ugandans to honor the memories of those who died in November 2020 by joining the fight for justice and equality.
Together, we can overcome oppression and build a better future for the nation.
