DP defeats NUP for deputy speaker seat in Mityana.
The National Unity Platform NUP has been defeated in the Mityana District Deputy Speaker election with the Democratic Party holding the seat.
At the meeting chaired by speaker Catherine Nalweyiso, DP member and Kakindu district councilor John Mary Mawejje was declared the winner defeating NUP candidate Tadeo Kawuki as Kikandwa district councillor.
The DP won with 19 votes as the National Unity Platform registered 12 votes. Although there were 13 NUP councillors, 12 votes were cast.
John mary Mawejje has been appointed to succeed the late Aloysious Kyeyune Kitikyamuwogo whom he recently passed away.
Deputy Speaker-elect Johnmary Mawejje once announced, promised to keep the Kitikyamuwogo legacy and laughed at those who thought the Dp was out.
