I’m Not at War with Whites-Gen Muhoozi says.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the First Son and Commander of Uganda’s Defence Forces (CDF), recently spoke out to clarify his views on relations with Western nations. This came after some controversy was sparked by his comments on social media, which led to widespread debate.

Muhoozi, who has always been outspoken about Uganda’s foreign affairs, explained that his criticism is not aimed at the entire West but is focused on what he sees as injustices committed against African countries.

“I’m not against Westerners, as some people may think. I simply dislike injustices directed at Africans,” Muhoozi shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account. He stressed that his position comes from a deep commitment to protecting the independence and dignity of African nations.

Known for his direct communication, Muhoozi wanted to make it clear that his earlier remarks should not be interpreted as a blanket rejection of all Western nations. He pointed out that Uganda still has good relationships with many of these countries.

In his statement, he specifically mentioned several Western countries he respects, including Sweden, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Belgium.

“My favorite countries in the West include Sweden, which sheltered us in the 1980s, the UK, where I received military training, Italy, a close ally of Uganda, and France, which is always seeking positive relations with us. I also admire the Netherlands, Ireland, and Belgium,” he stated.

This explanation showed that while Muhoozi is critical of some Western policies, he still appreciates the historical ties and friendships Uganda shares with certain European countries.

His clarification followed a recent diplomatic issue involving a strong warning he issued to the US Ambassador in Uganda.

In several posts on X (which have since been deleted), Muhoozi gave the US Ambassador a deadline to leave the country, accusing the US of overstepping Uganda’s sovereignty by imposing sanctions on Ugandan officials. These sanctions, aimed at security officials linked to President Yoweri Museveni’s administration, have often cited human rights violations and the treatment of political opponents.

Muhoozi seems to feel that the US is unfairly targeting Uganda with these penalties, which he believes ignore the country’s right to handle its own affairs.

The ultimatum, which caused diplomatic tension, came shortly after new reports emerged about possible US sanctions on more Ugandan officials due to concerns over how opposition leaders and protesters are treated.

However, before the Monday deadline could be enforced, Muhoozi deleted the tweets, which suggested a cooling down of the situation.

Despite the deletion of the posts, many people are still discussing the ongoing issues between Uganda and the US. Some are wondering if Muhoozi was pressured by the Ugandan government to remove the tweets or if the US’s threat of a “serious response” prompted the change.

Muhoozi’s latest comments show Uganda’s delicate balancing act in dealing with foreign nations. As the son of President Museveni and a significant figure in Uganda’s political and military landscape, Muhoozi’s statements often attract attention both at home and abroad. His strong stance on foreign interference has, at times, created tension with international powers.

By clarifying his position on Western countries, Muhoozi aims to show that while he opposes certain actions by foreign nations, Uganda is still open to positive relations with those who respect its sovereignty.
