“Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba Expresses Gratitude to God for Leadership Gift, Announces Next Step in Ugandan Politics.”
Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba has publicly expressed gratitude to God for his gift of leadership and announced his next step in Ugandan politics. As the former Leader of the Opposition in Parliament representing Nyendo–Mukungwe and a fellow National Unity Platform (NUP) Parliamentary Commissioner, Mpuuga organized a special thanksgiving service to celebrate his achievements across various levels of service, starting from Nkobazambogo, which provided the foundation for his political career.
The thanksgiving service was held at the Kitovu Sports Arena in Masaka City and was led by Reverend John Baptist Ssebayigga. The event saw a significant turnout, including religious leaders, dignitaries from the Buganda Kingdom, Members of Parliament, and politicians from different levels. The commentator at the service emphasized that giving thanks to God is a noble act, highlighting that a person who does not remember their origins and achievements and express gratitude for them cannot be truly thankful.
The Buganda monarchy extended its appreciation to Hon. Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba for his service to the Throne and his commitment to the Palace. In a message delivered by the Second Deputy Katikkiro, Owek. Robert Waggwa Nsabirwa, the Katikkiro praised Mpuuga for his loyalty to his Kabaka and his efforts towards the development of Buganda, setting an example for other leaders.
Mpuuga’s political journey began as the leader of the Baganda Nkobazambogo at Makerere University. He has served as a former Buganda youth minister, a member of the Buganda Assembly, and participated in various committees. The Katikkiro noted that during Mpuuga’s tenure as Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, he worked in a manner that prioritized the common man’s needs and highlighted areas for governmental improvement, benefiting Buganda.
Chief Executive Nsamba remarked that when Mpuuga entered politics in 2011, he initially thought Mpuuga was too young. However, Mpuuga’s parliamentary work has consistently prioritized the needs of the common man. He noted that Mpuuga has always remained loyal to the throne, even while serving as the Deputy Minister of Youth in Buganda and during his political career.
Chief Minister Nsamba Lukonge Lubega Alosius Magandaazi of the Ngabi clan praised Mpuuga’s contributions to the country’s development, urging leaders at all levels to listen to those they lead and prioritize humanity. He used an analogy about electricity, stating that while everyone desires it, if it becomes harmful to the environment, its use should be reconsidered.
Owek Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba declared his commitment to working with leaders who respect others’ opinions in the quest for national change. He promised to continue fighting for his cause despite facing numerous challenges, including mockery and betrayal by those he considered allies.
Mpuuga announced plans to tour the country to encourage Ugandans to prioritize unity for national development. He emphasized the importance of listening to leaders, distinguishing facts from rumors, understanding the meaning of advice, and recognizing conspiracies.
Busiro East MP Medard Lubega Ssegona advised political parties to engage in politics without intimidation, acknowledging that life extends beyond politics and the tickets given to candidates. Ssegona criticized the use of stigmatization in politics, noting its detrimental impact and citing the Rs 500 million given to Hon. Mpuuga as a pension for the Parliamentary Commissioner, which led to parliamentary controversy.
Parliamentary Commissioners Solomon Silwany, Prossy Mbabazi Akampulira, and Esther Afoyochan commented on the challenges posed by the opposition’s land-grabbing policy on emerging candidates, which has negatively affected the country’s politics. They pointed out that the ruling government faces threats from opposition politicians who employ such tactics.
The ceremony was attended by clan chiefs, ministers of the King, provincial chiefs, and central government ministers. Mpuuga expressed that his time in office has been a valuable learning experience, with the event drawing religious leaders, MPs, politicians from various parties, and many others.
