NUP Leaders Urge Supporters to Avoid Security-Like Attires.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has issued a directive to its supporters, advising them to refrain from wearing clothing that resembles military or police uniforms. This measure is aimed at ensuring the safety of party members and preventing unnecessary confrontations with law enforcement.
Joel Ssenyonyi, the NUP spokesperson, emphasized the importance of this decision following a recent meeting between NUP leaders and the police. During this meeting, law enforcement officials warned that individuals found in such attire would face arrest. The police have been actively searching for and arresting NUP members who wear clothing that closely resembles Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) uniforms. This crackdown is part of a broader effort to prevent any potential misuse or misrepresentation of military attire by civilians.
“We have communicated to our members the importance of not wearing attire that resembles army or police uniforms,” said Ssenyonyi. “This measure is to ensure that they do not find themselves in conflict with the authorities.”
Ssenyonyi confirmed that the party has already cautioned its members against donning such clothing. The decision is intended to avoid unnecessary confrontations with law enforcement and to ensure the safety of party supporters. He reiterated the party’s commitment to peaceful and non-confrontational political engagement, urging supporters to adhere to this directive and to continue expressing their political views in a lawful and respectful manner.
The police have reiterated their stance, asserting that any individual found in attire resembling that of the UPDF will be subject to arrest and possible prosecution. This policy is part of a broader effort to maintain order and uphold the integrity of official military and police uniforms.
NUP leaders remain dedicated to ensuring the safety of their supporters while promoting peaceful political activism. By avoiding security-like attires, NUP supporters can help prevent conflicts with law enforcement and contribute to a more stable and respectful political environment.
Thus, the NUP’s directive is a proactive step to safeguard its members and ensure that their political activities do not lead to unnecessary legal troubles. The party’s leadership is urging all supporters to comply with this measure and to continue their advocacy within the boundaries of the law. Through this approach, the NUP aims to foster a culture of non-violence and respect for legal norms, reinforcing their commitment to peaceful political engagement.
