The National Unity Platform (NUP) is once again aiming to resume their city tour campaign in efforts to strengthen their power and support in Uganda. Today, the party is expected to be in Bundibugyo for the first day of their tour.
However, according to their principal’s Twitter page, things seem to be somewhat challenging.
He states that although the Uganda Police had already given them the green light, some RDCs and other Lt. Colonels of Police continue to threaten them before starting their journey.
“As we prepare to head to Bundibugyo District tomorrow for our mobilization tour, we have continued to receive reports of intimidation and demobilization by the area RDC, Lt. Col. Alex Nzirimu, and the DPC, acting on ‘orders from above.’
Yesterday, they intercepted and blocked a mobilization drive and threatened to arrest the driver if he dared to advertise our coming. They then ordered the two radio stations not to accept any announcements for our event. Our program tomorrow is supposed to begin with a radio program that we already paid for, but the management of the station has been ordered not to host us!
What more? We booked Booma Grounds for our event tomorrow, and now the DPC says he has orders not to allow us to hold our event there, even though these grounds have always hosted all political and other events.
The DPC says we can only hold our event over 30 kilometers from Bundibugyo town! We strongly oppose and will not accept these illegal and criminal orders by regime officials, which are only born out of fear of the people! Our advice to them is not to interfere with our lawful programs,” Kyagulanyi lamented.
