Police Suspend NUP Rallies in City Centres.
Police have suspended the NUP from holding rallies in the cities, and ordered them to change all venues where they were supposed to hold their rallies during their tour.
These were the words of the police during a meeting with the NUP leadership after the tension that prevented them from holding rallies.
According to the opposition leader in parliament and party spokesperson Joel Ssennyonyi, police ordered them to move all rallies near the cities away from the cities and they agreed.
The rally scheduled to be held at Liberation Square in Masaka has been postponed to a new venue, while the rally scheduled to be held in Mukono today has also been canceled due to police orders, to be held tomorrow on 29 May,2024 at an unknown venue.
Ssenyonyi said that although they have been paying for venues ,but it will not open their cheeks they will continue to look for new venues to hold rallies.
Ssenyonyi meanwhile said police had complained that the group did not write them letters during the rallies, leading to misunderstandings.
However, he said their letters as a group may have been hidden from the police, that in the meantime they have been writing them.
Police spokesman Fred Enanga said the rallies in the cities disrupt the activities of other people, including damaging their property.
