President Museveni Signals Revolutionary Measures to Combat Corruption

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued a stern warning to corrupt officials, stating that their days of exploiting the system are numbered. He declared his readiness to employ revolutionary measures to combat corruption and ensure that those guilty of graft face severe consequences.

Museveni emphasized that the nation’s heroes, who fought tirelessly to achieve the current state of the country, would support the harsh punishment of individuals undermining Uganda through corruption and theft of taxpayer money. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the judicial system’s tendency to grant bail to murderers and corrupt individuals, insisting that they should remain incarcerated until their cases are resolved.

The President highlighted the necessity of adopting insurgent methods, reminiscent of those employed by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) during its bush war, to eradicate the destructive behaviors plaguing the nation. He also stressed the importance of utilizing the anticipated oil revenue for developmental projects, rather than for consumption and salaries.

Museveni outlined several key areas for the country’s development, including the construction of roads, hospitals, schools, power plants, and stadiums. He emphasized that the revenue from oil would be sufficient to address Uganda’s needs, negating the need for further borrowing.

A focal point of his vision for national development is the enhancement of transportation infrastructure, particularly railway transport for both passengers and goods. Additionally, he underscored the importance of irrigated agriculture and improving crop quality to bolster the agricultural sector.

The construction of an oil dam, Museveni noted, is a critical component that will significantly support the country’s economy. Through these initiatives, he envisions a prosperous and self-sufficient Uganda, free from the scourge of corruption and inefficiency.
