At the close of nominations, Returning Officer Nayebare announced that all six candidates had been successfully nominated, with five representing political parties and one standing as an independent candidate.
“As of 5 p.m., the nomination process has officially ended without any incidents. Every candidate who came forward has been successfully registered to contest,” Nayebare stated.
Commissioner Anthony Okello expressed his satisfaction with the peaceful nomination process, encouraging Kisoro residents to select their next representative thoughtfully.
He also reiterated the Commission’s dedication to ensuring a fair and transparent election.
“I thank the media for sharing information and acknowledge the role of security teams in maintaining order.
Although we come from different political backgrounds, this election process can help strengthen unity for a stable Uganda,” Okello commented.
This by-election follows the recent passing of Sarah Mateke, who had previously served as the Kisoro District Woman MP and as the State Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs.
The people of Kisoro District will soon have the opportunity to choose a new representative to fill this important role.
