Village Chiefs Want the Government to Increase There Monthly Salary.
The village chiefs in Bussi district in Wakiso district have accused the government of delaying the payment of their annual pension of 120,000/=.
They met at Bussi district headquarters, convened by Wakiso district chairman Matia Lwanga Bwanika, and asked him to inform the concerned authorities to deal with the matter immediately.
However, the mayors are not alone, and councilors on the Wakiso district council led by Bussi district councilor Sulaiman Ssenkubuge said they too have not seen their allowances for more than three months.
District chairman Mukalazi Charles Ssenkaddwa said the government should now consider increasing the salaries of village chiefs so that they can monitor government activities from the grassroots level.
However, Wakiso district chairman Matia Lwanga Bwanika assured them that he will follow up their matter and let them know the status of their payments.
He also urged them to work together to fight against the fanatics who are determined to evict people from their land, as they have been doing to evict people from the sea.
