Police Arrest 19 Suspected Criminal Gang Members in Arua City.
In a significant crackdown on crime, the police have arrested 19 individuals suspected to be members of criminal gangs terrorizing the residents of Arua City. This extensive operation, driven by intelligence reports, targeted areas such as Awindiri Hill, Ediofe Trading Center, Prisons Cell Oli, and Smash Roundabout. These locations had been hotspots for a range of criminal activities, including burglary, break-and-enter robberies, muggings, and bag-snatching.
Josephine Angucia, the regional police spokesperson for the West Nile Sub-region, provided details on the operation’s success. According to Angucia, the police recovered exhibits of opium and various tools used for breaking and entering. These items are currently being held as evidence pending further investigations.
“All 19 suspects are now in custody, where they will remain during the screening and investigative processes,” Angucia stated. She emphasized that the suspects’ case files will be meticulously reviewed and, once the investigations are complete, forwarded to the resident state attorney for perusal and legal advice. Should the case files be sanctioned, the suspects will be promptly taken to court.
Angucia also highlighted the broader strategy behind these operations, stressing the ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal gangs and eradicate organized crime within the region. “These operations will continue in order to defeat the operations of criminal gangs and get rid of organized crimes,” she affirmed.
The coordinated efforts of the police in Arua City reflect a determined approach to restoring safety and security for the residents. This operation marks a critical step in addressing the rampant criminal activities that have plagued the community, demonstrating the police force’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
