Updates: Karuma Road, including the iconic Karuma Bridge, has officially reopened for use after undergoing extensive rehabilitation for the past three months.
The government completed the repair works on schedule, and the road is now accessible as of today, 20th December 2024.
The reopening marks the end of a challenging period for commuters and residents in the affected areas.
Transport and Roads Minister, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, announced that only small vehicles and buses would initially be permitted to use the road.
Heavy trucks will continue to utilize the alternative routes established during the closure until further notice.
In a solemn ceremony, a special prayer service was held at the site, led by clergy members who dedicated Karuma Road to God.
The service emphasized gratitude and hope for the road’s significance in improving transport and connectivity in the region.
The completion of the repairs is expected to ease travel and boost economic activity, as the road serves as a vital link for trade and transportation.
