LUUKA | Authorities in Luuka District are investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident that resulted in the deaths of three people at Naimuli village, Nawampiti Sub-County, on Wednesday.
The crash, which claimed the lives of the victims at the scene, involved an unidentified vehicle and a motorcycle bearing registration number UFA 498C, a Bajaj Boxer model.
According to ASP Michael Kasadha, the Busoga North Police spokesperson, the deceased have been identified as Jackson Ngobi (46), Joram Mugabi (18), and Brian Mwase (23). The incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m.
The motorcyclist, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, survived the accident but sustained injuries. He was transported to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital in Jinja City for medical treatment.
Preliminary findings indicate that the crash was a result of a head-on collision between the unidentified vehicle and the motorcycle. “Initial investigations suggest that the accident happened at around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, when a vehicle collided head-on with the motorcycle registered as UFA 498C, instantly killing the three passengers. The bend at the location of the accident is suspected to have contributed to the severity of the collision,” ASP Kasadha explained in a statement.
Further reports reveal that Ngobi and Mugabi were riding as passengers on the motorcycle, while Mwase is believed to have fallen from the unknown vehicle prior to the crash.
A traffic unit was dispatched to the scene, and the victims’ bodies were transported to the mortuary at Kiyunga Health Center IV for post-mortem examinations.
The motorcycle involved in the accident has been impounded by police and is being held for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
ASP Kasadha emphasized that an active search is underway to locate the unknown vehicle and arrest the driver responsible for the collision. “We are working tirelessly to find the driver involved in this tragedy and bring them to justice, providing closure for the grieving families,” he added.
