Shock and Fear in Kyotera as Prominent Coffee Farmer Found Dead.
Byangiri, Nakatoogo Parish, Kyotera District – The community of Byangiri is in a state of shock and fear following the tragic discovery of Polofi Tamale’s body, a prominent coffee farmer, in his coffee estate. The 57-year-old had been missing for two days before his body was found just a kilometre from his home.
Tamale, a well-known and respected figure in the community, owned several rental houses in Byangiri town in addition to his flourishing coffee farming business. His disappearance on Sunday set off a frantic search, culminating in the grim discovery.
Leonard Ssentongo, the Byangiri village chairman and Tamale’s brother, provided details on the events leading up to his death. “We saw him moving with Bwanika, who picked him up to go and drink,” Ssentongo recounted. Tamale had left his home on Saturday, July 6, with a friend identified as Bwanika, to indulge in drinking.
Friends and relatives of Tamale revealed that he was a habitual drinker who often neglected his meals. “Every time he drank, he would not eat,” locals disclosed, suggesting that his death could be attributed to overdrinking and poor nutrition.
However, Tamale’s wife, Rose Namata, suspects foul play and has urged for a thorough investigation. “There are people he has been battling with over ownership of children. I think that could be the cause of his death,” Namata stated.
Twaha Kasirye, the spokesperson for the police in Masaka, confirmed that investigations are underway. “We have taken the deceased’s body to Kalisizo hospital to ascertain the cause of his death,” Kasirye said.
As the community awaits the results of the investigation, the tragic loss of Polofi Tamale has left Byangiri in mourning, grappling with the loss of a significant member of their community.
