The National Unity Platform (NUP) is set to hold a special commemoration event in honor of its supporters who were killed during the struggle for freedom and justice under the leadership of President Museveni’s government.
This solemn gathering will take place at Makerere-Kavule on the morning of November 18th, as the party and the nation remember the dark events that unfolded between November 18th and 19th, 2020.
Remembering the deadly Events
Between November 18th and 19th, 2020, over 150 Ugandans lost their lives in a brutal crackdown by government forces.
These citizens were killed in cold blood while expressing their constitutional rights, leaving behind grieving families and a country shaken by the violence.
Four years later, justice has not been served for the victims and their families, and no one has been held accountable for these heinous acts.
A Call for Accountability
The commemoration is not only a time for remembrance but also a call for accountability.
NUP leader Bobi Wine and other party officials have emphasized that despite the lack of justice thus far, the fight for accountability and transparency in Uganda’s political landscape continues.
“Each year, we gather to pray for the souls of our departed fellow citizens, provide comfort to their families, and amplify our demand for justice,” a statement from the party reads.
Standing in Solidarity
The NUP invites all Ugandans and supporters to join in this event to stand in solidarity with the families of the fallen and to remember those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for freedom and democracy.
The event will include prayers, speeches, and moments of reflection to honor the departed and strengthen the resolve for continued advocacy.
Looking to the Future
While the past four years have been marked by frustration over the absence of justice, the NUP remains hopeful that there will be accountability for all crimes committed against the people of Uganda.
This commemoration serves as both a remembrance and a renewed commitment to pursue truth, justice, and change in the country.
The November 18th commemoration is a poignant reminder of the resilience of the Ugandan people and their unwavering fight for justice.
As the NUP and citizens gather at Makerere-Kavule, the message remains clear: the pursuit of accountability and the remembrance of those who gave their lives will continue until justice is achieved.
