Tamale Mirundi Junior, son of the late outspoken political analyst Tamale Mirundi, has faced rejection from his clan following a disagreement about an apology to the Buganda Kingdom. The tension dates back to his father’s lifetime, who had been openly critical of the Kingdom and its leadership for reasons known only to him.
Before his passing, Tamale Mirundi Senior had frequently voiced strong opinions against the Buganda Kingdom, creating a rift between himself and the monarchy. However, in a surprising move, the Mirundi family recently decided to reconcile by offering an apology to the Kingdom. On September 25th, 2024, the family met with the Katikkiro (the Prime Minister of Buganda) at Bulange in Mengo to express their regret and seek forgiveness.
During the meeting, the Katikkiro, representing the Kabaka (King of Buganda), accepted the family’s apology and encouraged Ugandans to avoid using social media as a platform for attacking one another. The meeting appeared to be a step towards healing past wounds.
However, Tamale Mirundi Junior did not agree with his family’s decision. Unlike his relatives, Junior refused to apologize and stood firm in his late father’s beliefs. He publicly criticized those advising his family to reconcile with the Kingdom and firmly rejected the idea of apologizing.
The situation came to a head over the weekend when Junior was summoned to a clan meeting. Elders attempted to reason with him, hoping he would reconsider his stance. However, Junior remained defiant and showed no signs of remorse. His stubbornness angered the clan elders, and after a heated argument, they made the decision to disown him. As a result, Tamale Mirundi Junior was asked to leave the meeting.
